Ronald Gene Simmons enrolled in the U.S. Navy in 1957; around that time, he met Rebecca Ulibarri. Ronald and Rebecca were married, and the two moved to New Mexico to start a family. It was around that time that Ronald decided that Navy life wasn’t for him, so he decided to enroll in the Air Force instead.
Ronald liked to keep a tight leash on his family, even when he was deployed overseas. He would pay the family bills directly, and would only send Rebecca $40 per month for expenses, which was barely enough to feed the family. He also refused to allow his family to have a phone in their household, and Rebecca was also not allowed to drive.
